CMMC Has Arrived

The time has come…the moment we have all been waiting for… Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (also known as CMMC) has arrived. On July 6th, one of the most anticipated contract vehicles released its first official solicitation documentation.

GSA 8(a) STARS III has been on the radar for many small businesses looking to leverage their respective set-asides to get on one of the most lucrative contract vehicles presented by the Unites States Government. GSA 8(a) STARS II served as an excellent opportunity for new federal contractors to build their performance report card with the government. It did not fail to disappoint as many companies small and large found ways to leverage the vehicle and potential partnerships to become profitable for years to come.

Considering the impact GSA STARS has had on the contracting world, it would only make sense that THIS vehicle would become the very first to require Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification. Up until the recent solicitation, the contracting world only heard rumors and did not even know what the compliance standards would entail. We all waited in suspense to see how the language would appear. Here you have it folks…

If you have been patiently awaiting the solicitation documentation you can click here to review the solicitation in its entirety. If you have been researching, conducting Business Development efforts, updating your Probability of Win calculations and setting yourself up to get a piece of the $50,000,000,000 (yes BILLION) pie do not let your efforts, hopes and dreams drift away due to compliance.

We understand that small businesses need to utilize their funding and resources wisely. With new, more stringent compliance requirements, Fuse Solutions offers “Compliance as a Service” to help supplement customers’ system admin efforts with the focus on helping you prepare for NIST 800-171 AND CMMC requirements. Please submit a “contact us form” if you are eager to focus your efforts on winning and not letting a little compliance slow you down.

Mitigate Cyber Attack Vulnerability During a Pandemic

This is the first time in one hundred years that our world is experiencing the unprecedented event of pandemic. Though not the first, it is happening in a modern era of incredible technology. Unlike the 1918 Flu pandemic, most people around the world have access to incredible amounts of information, up to date news, telemedicine/telework, virtual happy hours and many other uses of information technology. However, this great advancement in society does not come without risk.

Rise in Cyber Crime

The FBI is seeing a spike in cyber crimes reported to its Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Tonya Ugoretz, the deputy assistant director of the FBI’s Cyber Division, says that the IC3 is receiving between 3,000 and 4,000 cybersecurity complaints each day. Therefore, resulting in a very sharp increase (roughly 400%) from prior to the COVID-19 pandemic when about 1,000 complaints were received daily.

There are a multitude of reasons behind this increase. On one hand, hackers are working on behalf of nations seeking insight on COVID-19 related research. On the other hand, hackers are seeking monetary gain from vulnerable entities. The vulnerable entities may be private businesses moving to telework or health organizations on the frontlines battling COVID-19. Not even large government and world organizations are exempt. Health agencies including the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) have been targeted by hackers in recent weeks.

How will you respond?

To prevent becoming a victim to similar cyber crimes there is some risk mitigation your organization can implement. With the increase in telework and cyber crimes introducing an experienced Managed Service Provider (MSP) can help a now decentralized organization. As such, here are some ways an MSP like Fuse Solutions can help protect your company:

  • Continuous Remote Monitoring
  • VPN Services
  • End User Security Training
  • Incident Response
  • DevOps/SecOps in a Box
